I rarely do personal blogs… i am thinking about doing more but if i don’t feel my life is that interesting i think it would be hard to convice you all otherwise! haha! but back to my post for today! I’m from VA and many people don’t know that out in the Chesapeake Bay is a small Island called Tangier. When i say small, i mean SMALL. 1.2 sq. miles ans 83 acres high enough for habitation with about 700 inahbitants. It was discovered in 1608 by Cpt. John Smith who also named it! Due to the isolation of the island the local people still have a very strong English-Restoration-Era accent. Yeah, okay, i know, enough with the history lesson and what does this have to do with me? Well my grandmother was born and raised there. It’s sad that i will be 30 in October and this was my first trip. We road on the charter boat, the Chesapeake Breeze” it was rainy and windy that day so it was a bit of a rough trip out. That’s also why the pictures look a little dark… This community was awesome…quiet and friendly… where bicycles and golf carts are the modes of transportation, everyone knows everyone, and pride in their heritage is their was of life. At lunch we ran into a local lady that knew my grandmother and great grandmother. “Yes, i knew Virgire… Good Christian people”. Made me smile!
We (two of my uncles, my cousin Erin, and my dad) started our trip in Reedville where the Chesapeake Breeze launches. Reedville, at one time had the highest income per capita in the country. Along it’s shore lines you can see the remnants of a once booming seafood industry. There are a couple bsuinesses still there but nothing like it was. The battle over the Menhaden has a lot of occupations on the line… i won’t speak on the matter… i’ll leave that to those who know what theyre talking about…. or think they do 😉
The first thing you see is the watertower! The tallest thing on the island!
Of course Crab Cakes were on the menu!!
I need to confirm with my aunt… but we are pretty sure this was my great grandmother’s house!
Local’s mode of transportation!!
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about my clients. Past, present, and future. I strive for a relationship that extends further than their wedding day. The industry is constantly changing and I strive to keep up with new standards while holding true to my style.
