Sometimes decisions you make regarding a certain area of your life end up affecting way more than you thought possible. That was the case with JB. This sweet guy from Alabama made the decision to serve our country. That path brought him to Yorktown, VA where on leave one evening he saw this strikingly gorgeous young lady spending the day at the beach with her friends. A simple exchange of numbers lead to texts, phone calls, a cross country long distance relationship and now a promise of a lifetime. Finding the woman of his dreams was probably one of the furthest things from his mind when he enlisted… but while not looking, he found his partner for the journey.
The moments when JB and Susan turned around after becoming husband and wife were precious. Susan looked down and saw the faces of her family and friends and was overwhelmed with emotion. She is leaving them to start this adventure. It’s bittersweet. I connect with Susan SO MUCH. My husband and I had a long distance relationship and after we married I left everything I knew for a life a with him half way across the country. I knew EXACTLY what she was feeling in those moments and my heart wanted nothing more than to reassure her and lift her up! I am a parent now and the thought of my children leaving me one day chokes me – but I also know that there is SO MUCH to experience when you step out of your comfort zone and walk into it head on. I KNOW her family and friends want that for her. They will ALWAYS be here with support, encouragement, wisdom, and strength – no matter where she is. Some days will be hard, but the ones that aren’t will overshadow that are.
