I’m not sure where to start with this post… When I made the decision to do this session it was pretty scary for me. Yes, I am the big mouthed photographer that gets on her soap box and yells the importance of taking time to not just take photos of your children but to be IN the photos with your children. They deserve the memories they look back on to include you visibly and not just as the one who was always holding the camera. It’s scary though! Self image is a huge with me! I have struggled with it for as long as I can remember. I cringe at the thought of it. I took a step back though, and looked at myself through the eyes of my daughter. This perfect little peice of me and her daddy and knew that when she looked at me she doesn’t see my weight. She deserved to have these memories – regardless of how I felt or feel. This is me. And she will have this. One day, when she and I are at each other’s throats and she hates me…. she will have this. One day when she is grown with her own children… She will have this.  One day, when I leave this earth, she will have this.
I wanted to make sure this session had meaning… It started with our dresses… My mother in law made them! Didn’t she do an amazing job! She even did it from 1700 miles away with no fittings! Wren’s dress is the color of my birthstone (October) and mine is the color of hers (August). All the jewelry I am wearing is heirloom jewelry that was my grandmother’s and great grandmother’s that my mother now has. The session location was in Morattico, VA… where my dad was born and raised. The ladies at Lively Creations did an amazing job on my hair and makeup even though the moisture in the air frizzed it out pretty quickly… lol… but as you can see, she has curls, too and she will learn all about trying to control that beast! haha!
So here we are. Me and my baby girl. My sweet, curly haired, green eyed, firecracker. The biggest thank you to Michael and Carina Photography for taking the time to photograph us such a long way from home for them… I am so thankful for these memories.
