12 days ago I was on my way home from an adventure.  I flew across the country to Arizona to photograph one of the sweetest most in love couples!  Unique circumstances opened the door for this trip.  Jacob is completing an internship in TX and Rebecca has her job here in VA.  She was going to visit him and they decided that they wanted to do their engagement pictures in one of their favorite spots; Sedona.

We’ve been planning this trip since early this year.  My life rarely follows specific plans I make.  I am definitely NOT a type A personality so making plans for me can sometimes be a challenge in and of itself… lol.  We both decided to just roll with it and she would scope places out since she would get there first.

When I flew in I had to rent a car to drive the two hours to Sedona.  I totally lucked out and the rental guy upgraded me to a convertible Camero for FREE!  Driving through the desert with the top down and that hot sun shinning down was glorious!  Back here in VA we I was coming off of what felt like an eternity of rain.  It felt amazing.

When I got to Sedona, Jacob and Rebecca hopped in the car with me and we location hunting with the top down.  The sunset that evening was indescribable.  The closest thing I’ve seen are the sunsets in South Dakota out in the Badlands.  So many colors.

The next day we made preparations for the session.  You know, like COFFEE… lol… Rebecca had a hair appointment so I went totally nuts and got a new tattoo.

We planned on starting the session around 6… But around 4 a storm rolled in.  I am sure it hadn’t rained in Sedona for like 6 years but decided to that night… I guess I brought it with me 😉  Luckily it blew over and even though we had to move a little faster we got some amazing shots.  We also got up early the next morning and finished up what we couldn’t from the day before.

It was an adventure to be sure!  Rebecca and Jacob had a close encounter with a Rattle Snake – while on a hike not during our session – and I had a run in with an evil cactus that left me picking spurs out of my fingers for the rest of the day.

The best thing that I witnessed, beyond the amazing cliffs, colors of the sunset, and the view of the desert riding down the interstate, was Jacob and Rebecca’s connection.  Yep, it’s totally gushy and probably even expected from my blog posts about my couples, but guys, It’s so so true.  I notice Jacob was getting tense before our session.  At first I thought it was because he was nervous about taking pictures…. most guys are.  But Rebecca came out from getting ready and I watch her walk over to him and hug him and she smiled and looked at me and said, “he’s tense because he wants this to be perfect – he wants this perfect for me.”  “He knows how much this means to me and he wants me to be happy.”  Seriously!!  I looked at them with new eyes in that moment.  I really wanted to focus on that during their session…

I really can’t thank Jacob and Rebecca enough for this opportunity!  Getting to know them and work with them was amazing and being in Sedona was the cherry on top.

XOXO
